FENRIR – The Patron deity of Coyles. The Lord of Murder, Strength, Anarchy and Chaos
Status: Younger God
Level: 9000
Avatar: Carint
Several years after the awakening of the Wolfen, at the time of their second king, when all was peaceful and as one throughout their kind, a tragic occurrence split the entire Wolfen race in two and caused an animosity and hatred which runs to this present day.
The saga started when His High most Grace and Lordship, King Theban Alemene the First, went hunting leaving his first wife Dirona eagerly awaiting his return. At this time there were no “cubs” in the royal household as her Ladyship Dirona was infertile.
Whilst King Theban was returning home he was accosted by Thirty huge giants led by a huge Daemon, he slew a score of their number before being overpowered and subdued. Meanwhile a perfect likeness of Theban returned to Dirona and loved her, leaving her with cub. The likeness then left the castle and vanished. Elsewhere the giants set Theban free but not before physically torturing him. Theban then staggered home to his wife.
Dirona listened to Theban’s story of his capture and torture and fearing what had happened stayed quiet about her earlier ordeal.
Several months past and it was obvious that Dirona was with cub and everyone was joyous, especially Theban, he instantly announced his cub to be heir to his lands.
At this time Qabanil the Wolfen deity, spoke to his most loyal priests in dreams warning them that the cub was the bastard son of the most darkest of gods, Pharastus, and so must be destroyed. Secretly his priests plotted and collected two huge serpents, the offspring of Rackarok.
The birth went well, secretly blessed by the evil lord himself, and Theban was delighted that Dirona gave birth to a son. Naming his son Fenrir, he watched eagerly as his son grew into a proud and strong cub. During this time the priesthood contacted Theban relaying Qabanil’s tale that Fenrir was the son of the most evil of devils. Theban was furious but finally decided to prove the priests wrong by asking his wife for the truth. Fearing for her own life Dirona lied and Theban believing her had the priests burnt for their jealous conspiracy.
The priests still had another plan to destroy the creature. Whilst Fenrir was out in the castle grounds playing, the priesthood sent the two captured serpents of Rackarok to kill him, but the infant strangled them.
As Fenrir grew their best exponents of the king trained him in all Wolfen exercises. Unfortunately for the Wolfen peoples Pharastus commanded Kanti to visit the child and aid in his true teachings. Fenrir’s teachings came to an abrupt end after Kanti’s final visit in a particular fearsome visitation Fenrir was sent to be trained in the art of music by Linus, who, expostulating with his pupil for lack of taste was immediately slain by him. For this Fenrir’s father banished him from the capital and sent him to guard the herds.
One day, several years later a mountain lion was harrying Theban’s flocks and Fenrir, took to hunting it. Coming across the creature in its lair Fenrir slaughtered it with his bare hands. For this his father forgave him saying that he had the true Wolfen spirit and took him once more under his arm.
Many years passed and Pharastus spoke unto his fully grown son saying, “My son, your time has come, go unto your purpose that Kanti has taught you since birth. Go with great malice and anger and you shall be the all powerful king over all your Wolfen slaves.”
And so Fenrir went to his purpose secretly removing his father’s heart whilst he slept. He then woke his mother and commanded her to eat it before banishing her.
Once established as heir of his father’s lands he commanded the Wolfen to attack various human towns in an attempt to increase his realm. Many Wolfen struggled with their loyalties; some refusing Fenrir’s commands took up weapons and attacked their brothers thus causing the historic animosity between the two.
Fenrir renamed his loyal followers Coyles and commanded them to slay their weaker brothers wherever they may be, giving them great gifts for their services. Thus the Coyles grew strong.
Dirona visited her son whilst the kin wars grew asking him to repent and help her heal the injuries he had done. Fenrir just laughed and with a single swipe killed his mother, ever afterwards wearing her skin, a garb in which he is nearly always represented.
SYMBOL
WORSHIP
The worship of Fenrir is proscribed throughout the Coyle’s cults across the world. Although outlawed his followers still offer human sacrifices in obscene rituals. All his followers love to deal out death to anyone who is either non-Coyle or a non-follower.
TEMPLES
There are no stone structures dedicated to Fenrir. Followers will gather anywhere they can to show respect to their God.
HOLY DAYS
Every day or night is a day suitable for murder and death but the 21st day of Junmonath is especially revered, as it is the time when Fenrir was born of Dirona. On this day multiple sacrifices are offered to Fenrir and worship takes the form of wholesale slaughter, a night for all to stay in and fear going to sleep!
FRIENDS AND ENEMIES
All others are prospective enemies and are treated as such, although all followers of Marnarka (Qabanil) are hated to an extreme. Marnarka (Qabanil) being the patron deity of the Wolfen.
However the cults of Pharastus and Kanti (aka – Xenos) are considered allies in the cause of Chaos and are treated with respect. It is not unknown for Fenrir priests to offer prayers to these gods as well in time of great need.
CULT REQUIREMENTS
All Coyles may join the cult as long as they pass the Trial of Strength. Fenrir accepts no weaklings. The trial consists of various strength related tests, with death as a terrible overshadow. Tasks like carrying a rotting corpse several miles up a mountain or strangling a bound bear to death.
For humans a pact must be made with Fenrir himself, this is done through an existing priest who communes between the two, if Fenrir does not except the individual the person is killed instantly with a venom covered dagger. If acceptable a blood bond is taken with the priest and the individual becomes one of the brotherhood.
STRICTURES
The following strictures must be followed:
- All Wolfen must be hunted out and slain.
- Death and pain is worship to Fenrir and must be carried out as often as possible.
- Never allow your strength or another’s to fail.
