NAKASATRA – Queen of the Ratlings (aka Nurgal)
Status: 2nd Generation Elder God
Level: 8000
Avatar: Carint
Nakasatra is a jealous and vindictive Goddess who was banished from the Pantheon by Marnarka, due to her aspect of Nurgal. In her quest for vengeance against the Pantheon she may use any of her clerics as pawns. Those non-followers who have been wronged by adultery often invoke her name.
After Pharastus’ acceptance into Bifrost he was quick to discover that Nakasatra had not only a form that he found pleasing but she had the dark heart that only the Dark Lord could find beautiful. Pharastus was quick to begin courting Nakasatra in secret. Ro’Azarkh being unaware of his actions. Nakasatra taught the Dark Lord the subtleties of court intrigue and the pure delight of seeing any enemy suitably made to pay for their wrongs. Unfortunately Nakasatra’s involvement with the dark lord was not to be permanent as she spent more time in her alter ego as Nurgal. Although encouraged by Pharastus it meant that she was banished by Marnarka to the Underworld (the 13 pits of hell before Pharastus took up residence there). Although this spited Nakasatra it also enabled her to cultivate her race of Ratmen (Skaven) and Rattlings. This meant that when Pharastus declared war on the gods and opened the gates of Angrabarkh like a vast maw and allowed Goblins and Drow to spew forth into Eä she was able to stand beside her lover and bolster his Dark Armies with the terrible Skaven war machines.
They were commanded by their Dark Lord to overrun the world by force of arms and magic, the goblins assaulting the dwarves in their mountain strongholds; the Drow slaying their fellows in the green Forests, Nakasatra’s Skaven and Rattling infiltrating the great elvish cities. Nakasatra also advised Pharastus to tell Marnarka of his affair with Tanarsa. When He did this Nakasatra was at his side and was able to blacken Marnarka’s mind so that in anger and hate he calls Tanarsa nothing more than a whore and a slut whose loyalty is worth nothing more than that of a mongrel hound. Distraught Tanarsa flees the battlegrounds tear streaked, Marnarka emotionally destroyed abandons the rest of the Gods on the battle field and seeks Ome-te Llest. This is the first victory of Pharastus and so with Nakasatra’s help he is able to gain a permanent foothold in the Worlds Edge Mountains.
After the fall of Angrabarkh the Gods drag Pharastus to Bifrost to stand before him and answer for his crimes. Nakasatra had already fled; she was able to see the tide of the battle falling in the favour of Marnarka and the entire elvish host. She fled into the deep endless winding tunnels of the pits of hell were she resides to this day plotting her perfidious schemes to bring about the downfall of the rule of Marnarka.
Followers of Nakasatra are vengeful to the point of insanity, being capable of plotting retribution for years before they act. Since they tend to be short tempered, suspicious and malicious, such clerics rarely lack targets. Killing a victim is considered merciful; destroying his world and degrading him completely is far more satisfying.
When between schemes, Nakasatra’s clerics go adventuring, but their suspicious and snooping nature draws them into intrigues and shady plots more than monster bashes in the wilderness. Nakasatra’s clerics use the vast networks of sewers under major towns and cities to carry out their perfidious deeds against society. Above ground the guilds vast cash buys a whole host of spies from all races.
Nakasatra is depicted variously as a large rat with fang like teeth or even tusks. Nakasatra stands upright, and has claw-like nails on all her paws. She is normally portrayed wearing a necklace of skulls, and in her claws she carries two large serrated Assassins daggers which perpetually drip venom.
Nakasatra is also worshipped under the guise of Nurgal a distinct plague goddess, usually associated with the pox, cholera and the Black Death!
