Earning Money from a Profession

It is considered that most people have a job or profession that they do when not adventuring, but that they ‘live to their means’ and thus have no disposable income that is used in character at Taverns or to buy commodities for adventuring.

If you have the ‘Book Keeping Skill (Rank 1 accountancy), you are considered to have enough money sense to be able to make the most of your money and thus have some disposable income.

NOTE: A character can only earn In Character disposable income from one job at a time.

For example: a person cannot be a full time body guard and a full time bar manager. You cannot fully manage two pubs at once. Or run more than one guild. Of course you could argue the point that you could help out other interests but you can only give the majority of your time to one “earning Job”. You can be a farmer and do your own book keeping. You cannot be a full time farmer and a full time Bookkeeper though.

Money can be made from any profession, and it depends on how skilled you are and where you are working as to whether ou are cnsidreed as employed and how much disposable income you have made. It is up to the player and the ref. to decide in which category the player’s job sits and where the character will realistically be tendering his trade. This can change each month.

A character cannot earn or lose any disposable income for each month they adventure for more than 3 days. If an adventure goes over the month they will not gain any money until they are back to work (Starting the 1st of the next full month).

NB: The amount earned is ABOVE the amount required for your normal standard of living.

Must role on the ‘Earning Modifier’ table to see if earned the expected amount, had an unexpected outgoing or earned some extra money that month.

Must also role on the ’employment chart to see if you have been employed that moth. If the character is acting as a supplier of a commodity this could just mean you haven’t found a buyer this month.

This also takes into consideration what skill level the character is trying to work (and thus how much they are trying to earn).  The player can choose to ply for work at a lower skill level than they actually are, in order to find some paid work.

e.g. Bahula the Leather worker is trying to work as a Rank 4 Manufacturer in Luagg, which is a Lower Class area. As not many people in the area can afford the normal fees for this level of workmanship she has a 25% chance of finding work. Deciding any work is better than none, she agrees to work for a rank 2 manufacturer’s wages, which increases her chance of finding paid work to 80%.

STEPS:

1) Buy the Book Keeping skill – Accountancy Rank 1

2) Discuss with a ref what job/profession you are doing, and confirm you have the requisite skills.

NB: For most jobs you also need to have a relevant skill, e,g, to be a Baker you must also have the ‘Baking’ skill.

3) Agree with the Ref the Job Category

a. Community Services

b. Entertainment

c. Food Services

d. Lodging

e. Nefarious

f. Personal Services

g. Security Services

h. Services: Hardware

i. Services : Magical

j. Services: Spiritual

4) Agree with the Ref the location of the Job, and assign a realistic class  (Lower Class, Middle Class or Upper Class)

5) The Ref will log your job on the ‘Employment chart’.

6) Each month:

a. Confirm you still have a job – if you have been adventuring without agreeing the time off, you are likely to have been sacked, and will have to find new employment.

b. roll for any variance in your disposable income (if you have not adventured for more than 3 days that month)

NB: This could be an increase, which could be due to tips or maybe increased sales, or even a loss if you had your wages docked for breakages, or maybe you were robbed on your way home from work, or you had an unexpected outgoing, which reduced your disposable income.

c. Decide if you are going to pay Tax on your income. It is up to the player to confirm if they are paying the Tax man or risking being caught and punished as a Tax evader.

d. Confirm if you are paying any Guild Fees

7) The ref will then confirm the disposable income available to you.

NB: If you do not speak to the Player Ref and do your employment rolls each month, you can only do up to 3 previous months, any disposable income for the intervening months is lost.

e.g. You have not rolled for 5 months (Jan to May). When rolling in June you can do March, April and May, but not January and Feb as it goes over the 3 month limit.
