Making money from a business.

You can only make a profit from any legal business if you have Book Keeping rank 2 or you have access to a Master Bookkeeper (if you are using someone else as the Book Keeper you will have to share the profit). A Business must also have its own premises.

Criteria to be considered as a business:

a) Employ at least 1 employee

b) Be Legal

c) Have a Premise

If a would-be business does not have any of these criteria it counts as a profession or job.

1) Buy the Master Book Keeping Skill  – Accountancy Rank 2

2) Discuss with a ref what Business you are doing.

NB: For most businesses you also need to have a relevant skill, e,g, to be a Baker you must also have the ‘Baking’ skill.

3) Agree with the Ref the Business Category

a. Community Services

b. Entertainment

c. Food Services

d. Lodging

e. Personal Services

f. Security Services

g. Services: Hardware

h. Services : Magical

i. Services: Spiritual

4) Agree with the Ref the location of the Business, and assign a realistic class  (Lower Class, Middle Class or Upper Class)

5) Spend the required money to buy a Premise, and draw the floor plans so everyone knows what it looks like.

6) Decide if you want to invest any further money, which will be held as assets

7) The Ref will log your Business on the ‘Employment chart’.

8) Each month

a. Decide if you want to reinvest any of your profits or invest in your business generally

b. Roll for the Business Profit.

NB: This could be an increase to the basic, which could be due to a good deal with your suppliers or maybe increased sales, or even a loss if you had breakages, or had been robbed, or maybe you had an unexpected outgoing.

c. Decide if you are going to pay Tax

d. Confirm if you are paying any Guild Fees

NB: If you do not pay Guild fees you will not have Guild protection and depending on the Law Level in the area you have set up your business, will effect whether you are plagued by Protection Racketeers who may eat into your profits.

9) The ref will then confirm the profit you have made that month.

NB: Each Business has a ‘Wear and Tear’ factor, so if you choose to always tale the profits and never reinvest into your business your business will start to lose value, and thus your profits will also reduce.

If you do not speak to the Player Ref and do your business rolls each month, you can only do up to 3 previous months, otherwise it will be considered that your profit was taken by your staff, and the business is starting to deteriorate.

e.g. You have not rolled for 5 months (Jan to May). When rolling in June you can do March, April and May, but not January and Feb as it goes over the 3 month limit.
